The first poops are the thick, sticky, tarry
meconium stools that consist partly of old skin cells that are
shed and then swallowed while the baby is still inside you.
Pediatric expert Dr Alan Greene explains the signs to watch for
when dealing with baby constipation and the steps to take if it
should occur.
For any baby, tan, yellow, green, or brown
stools can all be normal. Crying while straining may be a sign
of constipation. Unfortunately, way too many babies these days
are suffering needlessly from constipation. In " The Baby Book"
Dr William Sears says: "Constipation refers to the compactness
of the stools and the difficulty passing them, not the
frequency of bowel movements. As long as it passes fairly
easily and without too much discomfort, this is NOT considered
constipation.
Possibly the MAIN cause of infant, baby and
child constipation is dehydration. If your baby is being ONLY
fed breast milk, he shouldn't need water. Warning- dont
use a thermometer, or anything else for that matter, inside
your baby's anus to stimulate movement - this can ause
damage.
Infant Constipation stems from the diet and
exercise like the same condition in adults . Infant
Constipation almost never occurs when the infant is breastfed
because mother's milk is the perfect combination of nutrients
Since our baby is started on formula we have to assess the
current nutrients found in it . Could be a sign of a more
serious disease or condition This is the worrying
part.

consult your pediatrician if you suspect your baby is having
prolonged constipation issues. Prolonged baby constipation can
be dangerous to the health of your baby!.
